KARE 11 Lauds University of Minnesota CEHD’s Open Textbook Network

One of Strother Communication Group’s clients, the University of Minnesota’s College of Education and Human Development, has been in the news lately for an innovative program that makes textbooks more accessible to students.

KARE 11 News recently reported on CEHD’s chief information officer David Ernst, who is the executive director of the Open Textbook Network, a program that provides college teachers with open-source, downloadable version of textbooks to use for their courses. Ernst started the program (which is also supported by other schools including Purdue, Ohio State and Virginia Tech) out of a concern that textbook costs – for some students now as much as $1300 a year – are becoming a barrier to education.
