Creative Juicer

Q: Plan a road trip. Where would you go? Who would you take with you?
A: I would take my family on a national parks road trip tour. We would head West, and do a Yellowstone Badlands round trip. Hitting some key National and Geological treasures like; Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, Dinosaur National Monument, Badlands National Park, and Wind Cave National Park. I would also like to drop down to the Grand Canyon while I'm at it, and really take it all in.

Q: Of your creative accomplishments, what has given you the most satisfaction?
A: To see a comic strip that I illustrated and wrote in the LA Times right next to my all time comic strip favorite "Peanuts"

Knowledge Seeker

Q: What is something new you want to learn in 2012?
A: I would like to learn how to screen print at home. And maybe make my own home made screen printing press.

Q: Describe a recent problem that you solved in a unique way.
A:
Our MacBook accidentally got doused with water from a flower vase (I won't name names) which fried the logic board. Most people would immediately recycle the useless brick and buy a new one. Not me! I thought I could fix it, and figured I had nothing to lose. My sister had the same MacBook with a broken screen, so she donated it to me to "Frankenstein" with mine. I researched how to replace logic boards via youtube videos. I swapped the guts, which involved dealing with about 4 dozen tin screws. Once it was all put back together, I pressed the power button. Nothing happened. Disappointed, I accepted the fact that we would have to buy a replacement. But then, I realized that the keyboard wasn't plugged into anything. I plugged it in and VOILA IT WORKED!

Productive Partner

Q: Who was your favorite mentor and why?
A: Ken Edmondson. At that pivotal point when I was feeling defeated by the educational system, I was weighing my options between settling as a ice cream maker or finishing my education to get to my goal as a graphic designer. My mother suggested I meet with Ken, a graphic designer in her company. I went to see him and showed him my portfolio, and we had an inspiring conversation. Just before the end of our meeting he offered me a job as long as I finished my education. Near the end of my courses, I started as a intern and was later hired. Ken was a great mentor because he taught me additional skills, fostered my creativity, inspired me, motivated me, and kept me focused. But most of all he was amazingly kind (once he lonaned me his car for more than 6 months) and continues to be a true friend.

Q: Share a secret tip that you use often.
A: I open my bananas like a monkey.
